For anyone who is looking to experience a sail on one of our Azorean whaleboats for the first time, you can do so free of charge! An individual can row or sail up to a total of two times before being required to become a member and pay the $25 annual boat dues.
Open row slots are added weekly and are filled on a first come, first serve basis. (If there are particular days/times that work better for you, please let us know and we will try our best to accommodate open row time slots that work best for those who are interested.)
Please arrive 10-15 minutes early for your open sail. Boats are expected to leave the dock at the scheduled time to maximize our time on the water! Bring a bottle of water, hat/sunglasses/sunscreen, and a pair of gloves (rowing/cycling/paddling etc.).
All individuals must sign two waivers before getting on our boats (an AMHS waiver and a Community Boating Center waiver). Extra forms are located in the lock box at the dock, but arriving with completed forms is helpful. All coxes will verify this information before to taking any passengers out on the boats.
If you are not able to make it to a sail that you have signed up for, please provide at least 24 hours notice so that the slot can be filled by someone else.
Depending upon weather conditions and the number of people signed up for a sail, the steerer will determine whether or not a sail must be canceled (typically by 5pm the evening before the sail).
